Our fundraising party in May for the Wilderness Awareness School was a great success. Over 70 people attended and we raising approximately $11,000 which was double matched to result in a total of (drum roll......................)
$33,000!
Thanks to all who participated in the drive, the entire spring drive raised a total of $171,000. This is the largest campaign we've ever done and a wonderful sign of support in environmental awareness education.
Every dollar will be spent wisely and maximizes teaching children and adults this amazing way of connecting to nature. If you read this and are not familiar with Wilderness Awareness Schools nature and naturalist programs check out their website at www.wildernessawareness.org
This Sunday, I'll be leaving for a week-long Walkabout Survival training with the Wilderness Awareness School. The woman in the sandles, Julie, is one of the three instructors and is holding some ax handles we will carve into points for digging sticks to collect roots for eating. With just a knife, our digging stick, waterbottle, small day pack, and rain gear, we will learn to live off the land in Eastern Washington. The guy in pigtails holding the pot over his head is our leader, the famous Johnny Miller, who can survive anywhere with a big smile and wear only his handmade sandals on his tough bare feet.
I won't be able to contact you while I'm "out there" and wish me the best in foraging for food!
